The Unending Journey of Building a Community

Building a community is a lifelong endeavor.  It is a continuous journey that requires dedication, inclusivity, and an unwavering commitment to celebrating diversity.  Strong communities are those that recognize and embrace their own diverse fabric, fostering a sense of belonging and unity.  Scott Air Force Base and the areas that surround it celebrates the diversity in the area through festivals and cultural events throughout the year. Amore Jones Filipino Cultural Outreach INC, a nonprofit organization based out of Troy IL, has become instrumental in promoting Filipino cultural dance performances to this community that actively celebrates its diversified makeup.

This nonprofit participated in the Exchanges 129th Birthday celebration on Scott Air Force Base.  This historic occasion was marked by a series of vibrant Filipino Dances that brought joy and cultural enrichment to the attendees.  These performances were more than just entertainment; they were a testament to the deep-rooted traditions and artistic heritage of the Filipino community.

Following shortly after, they were invited to a Scott Air Force Base Mini Fini Brown Bag Food Truck event, it would be the last one before General Minihan retired.  The event was a cultural showcase of diversity in the Scott Air Force Base Community.  The Filipino dances added one of the many unique flavors to the celebration.  The presence and participation of all that represented their culture, through dance or through song, underscored the importance of cultural diversity.  This was a memorable and meaningful community experience everyone who attended enjoyed.

Every cultural event and performance orchestrated are the result of rigorous practice and dedication.  The dancers pour their hearts and souls into perfecting each movement, ensuring that their performances are not only entertaining but also authentic and respectful of their cultural heritage.  Every practice session not only allows the dancers to perfect their routines but also provides everyone with a cherished time to enjoy refreshments, relax, and bond with friends. These experiences are truly special and rewarding to all who participate. Amore Jones Filipino Cultural Outreach INC occasionally holds practices at the Tri-Township Park in Troy IL.  Participants appreciate getting outdoors and enjoying the fresh air as they prepare for their next cultural event. 

Tri-Township Park recognized the value of these performances from the events we held there and requested an appearance at their kid’s camp over the summer.  This request highlights the widespread appreciation and demand for cultural diversity in the local area.  The presentation took place at the local skating rink, next to the park.  This event was a hit with the kids and lead to many of them asking questions about the Philippines.  The community’s appreciation for these performances is evident in the enthusiastic applause and the positive feedback received after each event.
